About Us

The undeniable fact that our environment is not doing so well and that it takes far more for us travelers than throwing used towels at the floor. If we don ́t want the planet to throw in the towel. That was why we chose to enter the travel sector.

A wake up call from a fellow Swede. Not even remotely the kind that your are used to when staying at a hotel, that one being executed by a staff member behind a fancy front desk. But a wake up call for the whole travel sector, carried out by a Swedish girl who at that time was so young that she had to ask for permission in order to leave the dining table. She left her not so fancy looking school desk behind and instead stood up for the climate by performing a sit-in that gave resonance throughout the global society. You didn’t see that one coming, did you? To tell you the truth, neither did we.

We at Sustainable Hotels have made a resolution to raise even more awareness on how to conduct responsible travel by choosing a sustainable hotel. Because you are either part of the problem, and the pollution. Or part of the solution.

Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct lays out guidelines for our daily conduct in a number of important areas, including care for the environment, health and safety, business ethics including anticorruption, employee relations, human rights and community impacts.

The criteria for a hotel to become a member of Sustainable Hotels of the World include:

Limits energy use and CO2 emissions. Does not use fossil oil or gas for heating.

•

Implement energy and CO2-reducing measures to limit climate impact.

•

Limits water consumption.

•

Implement water-reducing measures.

•

Sorts efficiently at source to meet the limit value for residual waste, as well as ensure the possibility of material recycling and resource utilization.

•

Works actively with food waste prevention.

•

Serves food with a focus on the environment and sustainability. For example, they offer vegan and/or vegetarian food, like to use locally produced ingredients and avoid endangered fish and shellfish species.

•

Serves a high proportion of organic food and drink.

•

Ensures that the natural diversity of the hotel's outdoor area is enhanced.

•

Uses a variety of eco-labelled products and services.

•

Engages in or supports activities that are sustainable, humanitarian or animal friendly.

•

Train employees so that everyone becomes involved in environmental work.
